Biography[]
Esme is a woman that's full of sarcasm and wit. She will often come out with a smart remark in some form or another that will rile up the most impatient of people, and will always make light of even the most dire of situations, such as when Robin discovered her drunk and wounded at the Swoop tracks, she looks at the blood she left behind and responds with 'Aww would you look at that? I suppose I've better get it closed up before I decorate the place with my personal touch eh?' and when referring to her former master; 'Last I remember he was suffering from a bad case of dead.'
Despite this, she also has a maternal side to her that protects those she would consider naive to the world, such as Robin, whom she often refers to as 'Kitten' due to Robin's child-like personality.
It also appears that, because of her harsh upbringing and slavery, that she has little to no idea of concepts most women her age would take for granted. Shopping and decorating a home are things that are very alien to her as she never had the freedom to explore such ideas. Travelling to new places often brings out a child-like curiosity of the world around her. She appears quite overwhelmed by such things and is thankful to have Ilana help her find her way in this new found freedom. This curiosity can be overrided by her sense of duty, however, and if there is a mission to be done, she can essentially, shut off that part of her and focus on the mission.
Background[]
Esme was born in Velmor City to a family she doesn't remember. Her father died long before her birth and her mother was taken from her when she was just three years of age by Imperials. Raised by her brother, who was four years older than her and in a street gang full of orphans whose families had been killed or kidnapped by the Imperials, it was clear that, right from the start, she would be living a life of trouble and strife. In the gang, Esme was one of the 'forgotten children' in the eyes of society so could easily move messages and liase between the other gangs, many of whom sought to end the Imperial's domain on their homeworld, especially those that had lost their families.
At the age of 11, Esme's brother was taken by the Imperials and tortured when he attacked an imperial soldier protecting Esme from slavery. His attempt, though brave, was in vain as Esme was soon captured and taken to Naboo to serve as a slave for Korin Jabura, a high ranking Imperial Officer who took great pleasure in torturing the young girl in many different forms, in the hope that she could one day be broken enough to serve the Imperials as an assassin. For a while, it paid off, she was the perfect servant, tending to his needs and learning the tricks of the trade, including how to prevent a Jedi from reading her mind and she relished the thought of having the ability to have one's life in her hands, making her first kill as an assassin at the age of 13. As she grew older, she became more of a pet than a slave to Korin, while he grew reliant on sending the young assassin to eliminate his enemies, which she would often do gladly. During her time as an assassin, Esme crossed paths with a girl named Ilana, who, to this day, she has a deep respect for, though she keeps silent as to why.
At the age of 20, Esme began to feel disillusioned and had a strong desire to leave her master's service. Having learned of a young Rebel Alliance recruit that had been taken hostage on Naboo, Esme used the opportunity to release the recruit and escape her capture by killing her master along with a number of Stormtroopers that blocked her path between them and a ship. Despite appauling injuries she then took the kid home and with what little credits she managed to pilfer from her master, left on the next transport from Naboo to Telos.
Arriving at the Swoop tracks dirty and wounded, Esme decided to cure her pain with a lot of strong drink before passing out at the bar. Woken up by a girl named Robin, Esme was taken to a medical bay not far from where they were. During the conversation, Esme slowly began to realise that she was being assessed as a potential recruit for Republic intel. Initially suspiscious, Esme agreed to join the Intel section and was taken by Robin to meet her boss, who to Esme's surprise, turned out to be Ilana. Having not heard from Ilana in years, Esme quietly felt comforted knowing that she at least knew someone within Intel though given their pasts, Esme hasn't approached Ilana to 'catch up' as yet, knowing that their shared past was a painful one at best.
